We all know Pointers LOVE to run. If you have a yard but you either don’t want to fence it in or you can’t afford to, “hidden fences” might be an option you’re considering. They’re invisible and they’re much less expensive than traditional, above-ground fences. And a hidden fence will usually keep a dog inside his boundaries once he’s been trained in how it works.
I guess you’d describe me as a middle-aged guy. I wanted a Pointer because I thought I’d take him out hunting. Well, that didn’t work out, although it wasn’t the dog’s fault. As it turns out, I can’t hit the broad side of a barn, so I gave up that idea pretty quickly.
You’ve probably already done some reading about Pointers, so you already know they have a lot of great personality traits. They’re gentle, kind, bright and friendly, and they’re very good around kids. Pointers are not overly territorial, either, so they even get along great with other dogs! They’re also incredibly easy to groom. In fact, all they really need is a monthly nail trimming and an occasional bath and ear wash.
Every day of the week (well, six days a week, anyway!) our Pointer enjoys the time of his life. It happens like clockwork every Monday through Saturday, around 3:00 p.m. No, it isn’t going to the dog park for a 30-minute run, although he really enjoys that too. Instead, this wonderful daily event involves joining me for a simple, sedate walk down the street to pick up the mail.
One reason we feel such affection for our Pointers is because they always keep us laughing. You might not realize it, but these dogs are talented canine comedians!
I’m a busy working mom with three children ranging in age from 7 to 12. Until we got our Pointer, it was always hard for me to keep the kids entertained and physically active. Other than soccer and the occasional game of softball in the back yard with some of the neighborhood kids, their main form of entertainment used to be playing video games and watching TV. It wasn’t a very active or healthy lifestyle
If you’re interested in getting a purebred Pointer, have you considered adopting your dog through one of the many Pointer rescue groups scattered throughout the US, Canada, the UK and other countries? These rescue groups typically are non-profit organizations staffed by volunteers who are dedicated to rescuing, fostering and permanently placing purebred Pointers.
Every Pointer owner knows these dogs love to run, and they need plenty of vigorous exercise to stay healthy and happy. For city dogs, what could possibly be better than a trip to the community dog park? Being outside, playing with other dogs, the opportunity to run and run and run … what’s not to like if you’re a Pointer?
