Is a Pointer Right for You?

You’ve probably already done some reading about Pointers, so you already know they have a lot of great personality traits. They’re gentle, kind, bright and friendly, and they’re very good around kids. Pointers are not overly territorial, either, so they even get along great with other dogs! They’re also incredibly easy to groom. In fact, all they really need is a monthly nail trimming and an occasional bath and ear wash.

So, what’s not to like about Pointers? Truthfully, they sound pretty perfect so far.

Well, Pointers can be a bit rambunctious sometimes, and they’re pretty sizable dogs, too. When you combine the size and strength of these dogs with their athleticism and fondness for long walks and runs, a Pointer might be a bit much for a senior citizen or a young child to handle. After all, a seven year old child being pulled down the street wouldn’t be a pretty sight. On the other hand, a Pointer is typically very eager to please his owner and any other family members. That’s a quality that makes these dogs very easy to train. Once you train a Pointer to heel, he’ll walk calmly right beside you without pulling or tugging. Now that I think about it, maybe Pointers aren’t so tough for some people to handle after all! I’m in my early 60s, and if I can handle a Pointer, so can you!
