Have You Ever Wondered How Your Pointer Can “Hold It” For So Long?

If you own a Pointer, you probably already realize that some of these dogs can be a bit difficult to housetrain. It’s not that they don’t want to please you, because they most certainly do. If you housetrained your dog as a puppy, it probably just took a little longer than expected because of his short attention span and the way Pointers can get distracted by birds and so forth. At any rate, you finally got through it, just like I did. The funny thing is, now that my dog is fully housetrained, I’m wondering how he can “hold it” for so long!

Spoil Your Pointer the “Right” Way

Let’s face it – we all love spoiling our dogs. After all, that’s part of the joy of having one! There are all kinds of ways you can spoil a Pointer, but one of my kids’ favorites involves giving our dog treats and chew toys. And I have to admit to giving him a few myself. Actually, between all of us, he gets more than a few every week, although we do try to limit it to no more than one or two dog cookies per day

Is a Pointer Right for You?

You’ve probably already done some reading about Pointers, so you already know they have a lot of great personality traits. They’re gentle, kind, bright and friendly, and they’re very good around kids. Pointers are not overly territorial, either, so they even get along great with other dogs! They’re also incredibly easy to groom. In fact, all they really need is a monthly nail trimming and an occasional bath and ear wash.

I’m a busy working mom with three children ranging in age from 7 to 12. Until we got our Pointer, it was always hard for me to keep the kids entertained and physically active. Other than soccer and the occasional game of softball in the back yard with some of the neighborhood kids, their main form of entertainment used to be playing video games and watching TV. It wasn’t a very active or healthy lifestyle
