Boarding a Pointer is a Real Joy

I train and board dogs for a living. Right now I want to talk about boarding Pointers, although I might post something about training them some other day.

I own my own boarding kennel, and I’m here to tell you I’m always thrilled when one of my boarding clients walks through the door with a Pointer. These dogs are the best when it comes to boarding, whether they’re just staying with me overnight or they’ll be here for a week or two.

Let me explain why I say this. Ordinarily, big dogs can be more trouble than smaller dogs – sometimes a lot more trouble. They eat more, their “poops” are bigger and some of them tend to be aggressive toward other dogs – especially smaller dogs they think they can pick on.

Pointers aren’t like those other big dogs. They’re gentle and patient, and they get along well with other dogs – even dogs they’ve never met before. I’ve never had to break up a dogfight where a Pointer was involved. They’re just not aggressive at all. I feel safe putting them out in the exercise yard to run and play with any dog in my kennel, even toy dogs, because I know a Pointer won’t ever cause any trouble.
