I’m No Hunter, But I Can’t Convince My Pointer!

I’m not a hunter, but I sure can’t convince my Pointer of that. Let me explain, because I guess that sounds kind of weird … My husband and I live in a golf community where new homes are still being built. In addition to our homes we have two golf courses and a number of other activities on the grounds to keep us residents busy. In fact, the golf courses are why we moved here a few years ago. But in addition to these amenities, we also have a lot of birds in the area.

Tag, the Pointer Who’s Our Local Spokesdog

My husband and I live in a gated retirement community. We’re “old but not cold”, as the saying goes, and we like to stay active. In fact, that’s one of the reasons we own a Pointer – he’s always ready to go for a walk, and that keeps us going. At any rate, about 5,000 people live in our community, which is big enough to put out its own weekly newspaper. The paper consists mostly of articles about upcoming events (shows being held, club meeting schedules and so forth) but it also has a few local news articles and an editorial page.

Dogs Have Friends Too

We all have our friends, and they’re an important part of our lives. But one thing you might not realize is that your Pointer probably has friends too. I’m not talking about human friends. Nope, if your Pointer has regular play buddies at the dog park, if people visiting your home often bring their dogs with them, or if you and your Pointer take daily walks with another person and their dog, he probably has some canine friends. But one of the classic examples of doggy friendship occurs when you have more than one dog.

Make Sure Your Pointer’s Car Rides are Safe

Countless studies show that when a car’s occupants are strapped in securely, they’re much more likely to be able to walk away if there’s an accident. By now, we’ve all had it drummed into our heads, and in fact, in most places it’s illegal to not wear seat belts. But how many of us think about this in the context of our dogs riding in our cars?

The Social Event of the Day

Every day of the week (well, six days a week, anyway!) our Pointer enjoys the time of his life. It happens like clockwork every Monday through Saturday, around 3:00 p.m. No, it isn’t going to the dog park for a 30-minute run, although he really enjoys that too. Instead, this wonderful daily event involves joining me for a simple, sedate walk down the street to pick up the mail.

My Pointer Adopted Me (Instead of the Other Way Around)

My husband and I got married a few years ago, and after we settled in together, we started talking about getting a dog or puppy. It was my idea, really – he was somewhat against it. I’d had a number of dogs before and had been wanting another one for a while. I worked on him for months before I finally got him to agree.
