Take Your Pointer for a Ride …

…and I’m not talking about a ride in your car. Pointers love going for rides, but riding in the car is so old hat.

Tons of people in the United States – especially in the southern parts of the country – live in gated retirement communities. These places are typically limited to people 55 or older, and they range in population from a hundred or two people all the way up to one hundred thousand or more. I live in one myself. But more importantly for the purposes of this post, many people who live in these communities have dogs – probably more than half. And many of those same people also own their own golf carts, used to navigate their way throughout the community without needing to drive their car.

Well, you wouldn’t believe how much my Pointer loves riding in my golf cart! You might not think a Pointer would be an ideal riding companion, but he is! When he sits next to me on the seat, he takes up just about the same amount of room as a person, so we’re both quite comfortable. And my dog thinks he’s the King of the Street while we’re out on a ride. He’s able to look all around, enjoy the feel of the breeze lifting up his ears, and sniff the air eagerly, wherever we go. I know he’s looking for birds and he definitely goes on the alert whenever he sees one. Fortunately, I’ve trained him to never get down off the seat without my okay. So far, so good!

It must be quite a sight to see – me and my Pointer driving down the street. And it’s definitely one of the high points of his day!
