Tag, the Pointer Who’s Our Local Spokesdog

My husband and I live in a gated retirement community. We’re “old but not cold”, as the saying goes, and we like to stay active. In fact, that’s one of the reasons we own a Pointer – he’s always ready to go for a walk, and that keeps us going.

At any rate, about 5,000 people live in our community, which is big enough to put out its own weekly newspaper. The paper consists mostly of articles about upcoming events (shows being held, club meeting schedules and so forth) but it also has a few local news articles and an editorial page.

Back when we first moved here, we were thrilled to see this weekly paper. It gave us a great way, as newcomers, to get familiar with some of the things our community offers. And I was so excited when I saw the editorial page. One of the residents (George, a gentleman who happens to live down the street from us) writes a weekly column where he discusses serious topics in a lighthearted way. At the top of George’s column, every week, is a picture of Tag, the community spokesdog.

Well, every so often George writes about a topic that’s important to dogs and dog owners in the community. He’s covered the opening of our community dog park, publicized requests to adopt homeless dogs, announced reduced-cost spaying and neutering events, and so on. And George always writes these columns from Tag the Pointer’s perspective.

These weekly columns are always informative and always funny to read. But the best ones are always the ones George claims Tag the Pointer has written. This dog even has his own byline, for goodness’ sake.

Tag’s take on things gives us all an amusing look at life from a dog’s point of view. Sometimes that’s what we need. George realizes that, and that’s why Tag the Pointer is our community spokesdog.
